National Senior XC Champs – Derry

A tough day all round at the National Senior XC championships in Derry – with high expectations of a team medal in the Ladies race. A strong squad toed the line on a wet and mucky course in the Templemore Sports Complex! 

Jodie led the team home in 15th, followed by Niamh Carr in 29thLucy in 31st and Orla in 36th. The scoring quartet were strongly supported by Edel in 43rdCliona in 56thAoife C in 57th and Fiona in 60th.

In the team standings, we just missed out on team medals with Leevale AC retaining their team title with 53 points, from Finn Valley with 76 points and DSD with 105 points! The DCH ladies totalled 111 points on the day.

In the Senior men’s race, both Philip (21st) and Pierre (38th) acquitted themselves well, with conditions at their absolute worst – rain, wind and that extra bit of muck, by race 10! Great racing lads!

Dublin/Leinster Senior XC Champs – Kilbeggan

The Dublin XC champs were held in conjunction with the Leinster XC champs at the Kilbeggan racecourse in Westmeath, yesterday! The Ladies team defended their Jim McNamara team title (for the 5th year in a row) with a resounding 1,2,3 finish from Orla, Edel & Lucy. The leading trio were well supported by Cliona (only 2 weeks since her DCM exploits) in 18th (8th overall in Dublin champs), and followed closely by Karen 26thGrace 32ndCliodhna 37thEllen 42ndEdel Mc 43rdClaire O’C 44thAoife Corr 45thLorna 49thAoife D 51st and Laura 52nd (no fewer than 14 ladies racing). In the overall team standings, DCH were comfortable winners with 14 points, from Clonliffe Harriers with 31 points and Sportsworld AC 3rd with 74 points!

In the Men’s race, Pierre showed a remarkable return to form with 2nd place overall from Colm Rooney of Clonliffe – great racing considering time out from training and racing in recent weeks!

In the Junior Men’s race, the club were well represented by Aaron and Isaiah – both gaining valuable experience on the bigger stage!

Over in Scotland at the Scottish short course 4K XC championships held in Lanark, Niamh C (13.23) finished a close 2nd (only 3 seconds) to Morag Miller – great racing Niamh!

Another great weekend of action for the DCH ladies with Leinster team and individual successes at the Leinster Novice XC championships in Gowran on Saturday and a top 5 team placing for our marathon ladies in the Dublin City marathon earlier today!

We start with the Leinster’s in Gowran on Saturday – distant positive memories of winning the National Senior Ladies team title 2 years ago!

This time our Novice squad emulated that feat, with Fiona romping to an impressive 23 second victory over the 4km in 14.48 and followed in the top 5 by a great run from Aine with 15.42.

Excellent team support from Grace in 13th and Katie in 19th ensured the team title with 38 points from Sportsworld 2nd with 71 points and Parnell AC 3rd with 117 points. This scoring quartet were well supported by Cliodhna in 24thEllen 26thClare O’C 33rdAoife Corr 40thEdel Mc 41stLaura 43rdLorna 45thAoife D 48th and Aisling 71st – great team packing! Incredible to see DCH have 13 ladies finish in the same race!

Earlier today at the DCM, Cliona on her marathon debut, raced to a superb top 16 finish with 2.47.23 (9th Irish finisher) and was ably supported in the team race by Sinead with 3.04.28 (new PB), Aislinn with 3.06.40 (new PB) and Lily with 3.36.07 (just back from injury). The ladies were overall 4th Female Senior team!

Well done too, to Conor S, our sole male representative who finished in 3.07.43 – great running Conor!

20/10 Latest Updates

A great day for the club at the Autumn International XC races in Abbotstown with the mixed relay squad of Niamh, Pierre, Lucy & Philip defending their National team title – from Ennis Track AC and Nenagh Olympic AC. The club have now qualified for the 3rd consecutive time for the European Club Relays Championships to be held in Portugal in February 2026!

Later in the day, Orla finished 13th overall in the Ladies race over 6km, with Vlad placed 22nd in the Men’s 8K – great seasonal openers by both!

This Sunday, cross country got underway, at the Dublin Novice XC championships in the Phoenix Park, our Ladies team finished 6th overall with Cliodhna leading the squad home in 20th. She was followed by Claire M in 28thMuireann in 40thLorna in 42ndLaura in 43rd  and Rachael in 50th. Our sole representatives in the Men’s race was Michael and Ronan.

The club had good representation at both the Irish Universities XC championships in Tymon Park on Saturday where Lucy was crowned the Ladies champion for 2025, representing MTU – well done Lucy. Also competing for their respective universities were Fiona (UCD), Karen (TCD), Juliet (UCD) and Clare (TUD). In the Men’s race, Michael was our sole representative competing for TCD

Down under in Melbourne, former Celtic / DCH athlete Richard Lombard raced 2.50.46 over the marathon distance while Eimear clocked 85.16 in the Ladies ½ marathon – well done to both!

Last weekend Sinead (1.26.50) and Aislinn (1.27.10) were 5th and 6th women home racing the Ratoath ½ marathon, in preparation for the DCM in 5 weeks’ time!

This weekend at the Berlin marathon – both Tadhgh (3.07.14) and Michael (3.19.20) completed the renowned distance in challenging heat – well done lads!

On Saturday morning at the Abbotstown Park Run, we had 10 athletes in action (good novice prep. training); and all acquitted themselves admirably – first home Aine with 19.58, Karen (20.42), Katie (21.48), Ellen (21.53), Cliodhna (22.05), Edel (22.42), Claire (23.13), Clare (23.31), Aoife D (23.52) & Aisling (25.55).

At the Castlegar International XC on Saturday, Orla returned from our Portugal Camp and placed 2nd overall over the 6.25 Km course in 23.00 – a nice confidence booster & seasonal opener!

During the past week, Eoghan ran a solid 15.54 at the ALG 5K Corporate Team Challenge on Wednesday evening with Aislinn clocking 19.50 (amid her DCM training just 3 days after Ratoath Half) and Laura with 21.37 both placing as part of mixed and women’s teams.

On the roads Faye continued her recent excellent form with a busy winning double – firstly on Saturday with a victory over 5K (16.53) at the Rathkenny race in Meath, and then on Sunday with an impressive 58.35 at the St. Cocas AC 10 miler in Kilcock – well done to Faye! At the Frank Duffy 10 mile, the same weekend, Aislinn (66.19) and Sinead (66.22) raced their first race of their DCM training journey. More impressively here, Pierre romped to an easy 49.02 debut 10 mile victory at the Frank Duffy – great racing Pierre!

Following on from this Edel (17.31) and Aine (17.40) raced impressive times at the Celbridge 5K and Cliona popped out 79.32 for the Antrim Coast ½ Marathon – a good preparation run with DCM about 2 months away!

On the track Philip raced a brilliant new 1500m PB of 3.40.60 at the WACT Challenger DCLA – Meeting Voor Mon in Belgium. At the same meet, Orla finished her outdoor track season with 9.42.84 for the 3000m – solid racing after an excellent track season for Orla (new PB’s at every track distance).

On Saturday evening at the Hyatt Centric Hotel in the Liberties, DCH Ladies celebrated “50 Years of Women in DCH” – an amazing gathering of our golden era of female athletes in our club – 14 consecutive National Senior Ladies team titles and twice European team champions! It was great to see so many of our then stars, present on the night! On this occasion, our recent Olympians Nadia Power (2021) and Jodie McCann (2024) were added to the Clubs Honorary Life Vice Presidents role of honour – well deserved for their outstanding achievements in club colours in recent years! It was a great evening, and great praise must go to the organising committee, for their initial vision to host such an event, and the excellent execution of the event itself. Club Captain Cliona hosted the evening with effortless ease!

One athlete standing after a long outdoor track season and Philip brought his great season to a wonderful climax with another sub 4 mins for the mile (3.59.45) at the Monument Mile Classic at the University of Stirling in Scotland over the weekend – well done Philip!

After a well deserved week or two off our Cross Country gang are back in action on Tuesday evenings and looking forward to the season ahead!
